A team of 35 staff from St James’ Catholic High School in Cheadle Hulme will be racing the streets of Manchester to raise funds for The Christie.
Site supervisor, Phil Ellison, along with almost half of the school’s staff will be taking part in the Morrison’s Great Manchester Run on Sunday 22nd May, in appreciation of the care the specialist cancer centre gave to Phil’s mother Veronica. Sadly Veronica, aged 71 from Heald Green lost her battle with cancer at the beginning of March.
Phil, 46, from Heald Green who has worked at St James’ for eight years, said:
The Christie meant a great deal to me seeing the way they looked after my mum since she was first diagnosed last June. I attended all of her appointments with her and seeing what a great job the staff and volunteers did amazed me, I wanted to give something back.
I sent an email to all school staff asking if anyone would be interested in joining me and was blown away by the response. Mum loved reading the messages posted on our fundraising page, I’m just gutted she won’t get to see us run on the day.
Sinead Kennedy-Peers, sporting events officer at The Christie charity, said:
We’re thrilled Phil and his colleagues from St James’ have chosen to run for The Christie and support our charity. We’re sure Phil’s mum would be extremely proud of them all running in her honour.
They will join the 1,500 people of all different ages and abilities already running for us. There is still time to Join Team Christie and sign up to take part, simply visit www.greatrun.org to register. We would encourage everyone to get involved on what will be a wonderful day that raises a huge amount for cancer patients across the North West.
The Christie charity has over 40,000 supporters and raised an enormous £13.3m last year to fund projects for The Christie NHS Foundation Trust that would not be affordable under the NHS.
If you would like to take part in the Great Manchester Run for The Christie, the charity currently has a limited number of guaranteed entry places available. To apply for one of these places, or to find out more information please call 0161 446 3400 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
