A young Hollyoaks actress who plays a teen diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma is putting on her running shoes to raise funds for cancer patients in the North West.
Kassius Nelson, from North London, who plays Jade Albright in the Channel 4 soap will be taking part in the Morrison’s Great Manchester Run on Sunday 22nd May for specialist cancer centre, The Christie in Manchester.
Kassius will be running alongside 1,500 Team Christie fundraisers in Europe's biggest 10K running event that has seen more than a quarter of a million enthusiastic runners take to the streets of Manchester since the run was established in 2003.
The heart wrenching storyline sees Jade and her boyfriend Alfie, played by Richard Linnell, both discover that they have cancer and follows the different challenges they have to face from the disease.
Kassius enjoys keeping fit, but after getting the part of Jade and learning about the effects of cancer, she was keen to do something to help people with the disease.
She said: “It has been quite emotional on set going through some of the scenes for Jade and Alfie. Having spent time with cancer patients we have a good understanding of what our characters are going through.
The Christie is an amazing place giving hope and support to so many cancer patients and their families. I hope lots of people sign up to run in support of The Christie.
Kassius will be cheered on by family and friends.
Sinead Kennedy-Peers, sporting events officer at The Christie charity, said: “We’re excited that Kassius has chosen to run for The Christie and support our charity.
There is still time to join Team Christie and sign up to take part, simply visit www.greatrun.org to register. We would encourage everyone to get involved on what will be a wonderful day that raises a huge amount for cancer patients across the North West.
The Christie charity, which supports the work of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust by providing enhanced services and equipment above and beyond what the NHS funds, has raised an incredible £15.8m in 2015/16. This record breaking figure is the largest amount Christie fundraisers have ever raised, and comes at a time when The Christie hospital needs funds more than ever.
If you would like to take part in the Great Manchester Run, the charity currently has a limited number of guaranteed entry places available. To apply for one of these places, or to find out more information, please call 0161 446 3400 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
