Mini motorists meet for The Christie
Members of the Cumbria Mini Cruisers club
Hundreds of Minis, Manchester’s leading cancer centre The Christie and the mountains, valleys and moors of Scotland. A unique combination, but one that hopes to raise thousands of pounds in the fight against cancer.
In order to celebrate the classic Mini car’s 50th birthday this year, Kayley Holden from Wigton in Cumbria is organising a special fundraising event with an aim to donate £5000 to The Christie.
The 22 year old is urging anyone who owns a Mini, has a love of the great outdoors and wants to help a good cause, to take part in her “Scottish Mini Splash Dash” event.
Kayley said; “There are so many Mini enthusiasts up and down the country and I want them all on board! The event’s taking place on the weekend of the 1st May and we’ll be camping out at the Thirlestane Castle in Scotland. As well as taking to the open road and driving around the beautiful Scottish countryside, there’ll be treasure hunts, games, music, hog roasts and much, much more.”
Kayley’s a member of the “Cumbria Mini Cruisers” club, a group of more than 100 who share a passion for the vehicle.

She added; “My nanna and my aunty both died of cancer a few years ago so the cause is something very close to my heart. The Christie does such amazing work and I want to do anything I can to help further that. Ninety Mini fans have signed up for this event so far, but I would love to hit a target of 250. It only costs £12 to take part, plus £9 for camping fees, but together we could really make a difference. I’ve planned a really interesting route for us to drive through over the weekend – everyone will get to experience the many sights and sounds of Scotland. One word of warning though – the drive isn’t a race and we’re asking everyone who attends to take into consideration on-coming traffic, narrow roads and be aware that there are plenty of pheasants about!”
Regional appeals officer at The Christie, Howard Newhall said; “This event will be a first for The Christie and with Kayley's enthusiasm and the brilliant backdrop of the castle I'm sure it will be both a memorable weekend for all Mini owners and a fundraising success."
The event’s taking place on the 1st to the 4th May. To take part and for more information you can sign up by visiting www.cumbriaminicruisers.co.uk
