On the hunt for fundraising Salford superstars!
Community fundraising officer at the Christie charity, Ste Anderson.
The Christie charity is throwing open the challenge to generous readers of the Advertiser to become ‘Salford Superstars’.
The Salford Advertiser has joined forces with the charity to raise £250,000 towards the new £17million Christie radiotherapy centre being built at Salford Royal.
Community fundraising officer at the Christie charity, Ste Anderson, said; “This centre will transform cancer care for patients living in Salford which is why this appeal is so important.
“To be a Salford superstar the challenge is to raise £100 within 12 months. Let your imagination run wild with ideas and however weird or wonderful we will be here to provide you with all the fundraising support you need.
“Why not dress up as a superhero in your supermarket and pack bags for a donation, have a superstar singing competition or do a superstar sponsored silence?
“You can raise money as an individual or get together with friends, family, neighbours, classmates or colleagues, and, of course, you are welcome to raise more than £100.
“We need everyone across the city of Salford to dig deep and get involved – you really can make a huge difference.”
To register to become a superstar call 0161 918 7398 and you will receive a free Salford Superstars t-shirt.
Notes to editor:
The radiotherapy centre will be the second in a network of centres where cancer patients from Salford, Wigan and Bolton will be able to access first class radiotherapy treatments from Christie experts, but much closer to home. Building work has started and the centre will open in 2011. The first radiotherapy centre is opening in Oldham in 2010.
As well as treating patients for the most common cancers like breast, bowel and lung, this special development will also be a national centre of excellence for treating brain conditions. It will be equipped to deliver stereotactic radiosurgery, a highly specialised neurosurgical technique for brain cancers – making it one of only a handful of such centres in the UK. Currently patients from Greater Manchester have to travel to Sheffield for this treatment.
