Travel students quiz their mates
Travel and tourism students hand over their donation to Christie Oldham representative Pete Snow
Students from Oldham Sixth Form College have raised £970 for The Christie’s new radiotherapy centre in the town.
Ten students all on the A2 Applied Travel and Tourism course organised a Global Gathering night at the Little Cot, where they hosted a travel quiz. They also had a bucket collection, asked for donations and held a limbo dance competition.
All the students are currently in the last year of their course and hope the quiz night will boost their studies. They all met with Christie representative Pete Snow recently to hand over their generous donation.
The Christie radiotherapy centre is due to open at the Royal Oldham Hospital early in 2010. It will mean patients from Oldham and surrounding areas will not have to travel to The Christie on a daily basis for radiotherapy treatments.
Christie fundraising officer Jacky Plant, said: “We’re thrilled the students at Oldham have decided to support our new centre. We really want the people of Oldham to get behind our cause at the moment and help us bring this fantastic new facility to the town.”
