In memory of the Riaz family
Members of the Caneze Riaz Trust handover their donation to the Christie Hospital
The Christie Hospital has been given £6,000 in memory of a tragic Accrington family.
Adam Riaz, aged 17, was receiving treatment at the Christie in Manchester when his family was killed in a fire at their home in November 2006. Adam sadly died from leukaemia just a month later.
A trust has been set up in memory of Adam’s mum Caneze and her family as a tribute for all they did for Accrington and its community.
The trust aims to raise funds annually to help charitable causes, supporting work Caneze herself devoted much of her life to. Fundraising group the Christie Grafters visited one of their events at the Usha restaurant in Oswaldtwistle recently and chair Lorraine Wallace and vice chair Irene Coy accepted the donation.
Parvinder Sohal, one of the organisers of the trust, said: “Caneze and her children are a sad loss, however by raising money for young people we hope to keep their memory alive. As we continue to raise money we hope to fulfill the ever changing needs of the young people. By working together as her friends, we gain strength and fortitude to alleviate the tragic events that transpired.”
