Press Release - 5th October 2006
SUE'S BIRTHDAY BASH
Sue is pictured when she presented a new piece of equipment to Christie consultant surgeon Jarrod Homer.
A husband who lost his wife to cancer earlier this year is marking the first anniversary of her birthday by throwing a huge birthday bash in her memory.
Sue Slater was just 56 when she passed away in April following a long battle with the disease. And having devoted much of her time to fundraising for The Christie Hospital as a founding member of Wilmslow Fundraisers for Christie's, husband Stuart decided her birthday would be the ideal opportunity to host a tribute to her.
Stuart said: "Everyone who knew Sue remembers her as a kind and considerate person who would always help others before herself. I wanted to do something to mark Sue's first birthday since she passed, and it seemed obvious and appropriate to have a party to remember and celebrate her wonderful life and to raise funds for the two charities who cared for her so lovingly during the last few months of her life.
"Of course it will be an emotional occasion, but we do hope to be able to have fun in her memory and raise an awful lot of money at the same time - she would've been very proud of what we are doing."
The celebratory party will take the form of a four-course dinner to be held at the Royal London Assurance Head Office in Alderley Road on October 26th. All proceeds will be split between The Christie and East Cheshire Hospice. Tickets are still available for £40. For more information, contact Stuart Slater on 01625 530695.
