CHRISTIE
SECURES BRONZE AWARD
Christie Garden
The Christie's garden at this year's RHS Tatton
Flower Show has secured a prestigious bronze award.
The Christie's
show garden, sponsored by Manchester Airport and British Airways,
has been lovingly created by
Bolton-based designer Andrew Walker.
Andrew has produced gardens
at leading horticultural shows throughout England for many
years. He is a regular exhibitor
at the Southport Flower Show and RHS Tatton Park and has
also worked at the Gardeners' World Show at Birmingham
and the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show.
Awards include three
consecutive gold medals at Southport, two silver medals and
a bronze award at RHS Tatton Park – and
last year he secured a silver award for Christie's.
Andrew,
who designed the garden from scratch and completed most of
the work himself along with volunteers recruited
by The Christie, chose the name Time for Reflection because
of the garden's relaxing, meadow-like theme, reflecting
The Christie's philosophy that time is precious.
The
garden was inspired by the natural landscape and has been built
using 100 per cent natural materials. It is designed
to blend in with its surroundings and organic shapes, mirroring
those found in the natural landscape, feature throughout.
Central
to the garden is a large pool that is home to a fantastic bird
sculpture. A stone spiral gently unfurls into
the pool and a wooden crescent moon deck forms one side.
Sinuous turf banks provide the pool's backdrop and
echo the form of a hillside.
Beautifully crafted dry stone walls
are reflected in the pool's surface, bestowing further
dramatic spectacle. And the vista is completed by a striking
planting scheme
featuring ferns, grasses and perennials planted in the style
of a wildflower meadow.
Andrew said: “Christie's
is marvellous place with a worldwide reputation. Anyone treated
there places
great value on the importance of time and that was my inspiration
for this garden design. I have tried to design a truly relaxing
atmosphere using nothing but natural materials.
Appeals Director
Toni Leden said: “Andrew once again
has worked very hard to produce a remarkable garden and we're
extremely pleased with the end result and we're delighted
to get a medal for the third year running. Andrew consulted
with us every step of the way and it is now a real pleasure
to see how everything has come together and we hope the crowds
will enjoy it.”
