Press Release - 12th August 2005
A
GLITTERING OCCASION
Christine Lamb, Gill Turnock & Sal Thomas
Three friends came together to organise a Glitter Ball
recently at Stockport Town Hall, raising more than £7,000
for The Christie, Europe's largest cancer
treatment and research centre.
Christine Lamb, from Stockport,
was inspired to organise the ball to thank staff who
are currently treating her
mum Susan Wright for ovarian cancer.
She approached friends
Gill Turnock and Sal Thomas, and between them, they organised
the ball, raising an
impressive £7,700.
Susan, aged 57, was diagnosed last
May. She has had an operation to remove the tumour and
is now on her second
course of chemotherapy but is currently doing well.
More
than 200 people attended the dinner and dance which was
also boosted by a charity auction and raffle.
Christine
said: “We wanted to do something special
for my mum, so we decided to throw a party. We started
to think about it more, and it seemed like the obvious
thing to try and support Christie's at the same
time.
“ It was a fabulous evening and we're thrilled
to raise so much money. My mum was fortunately well enough
to attend and she gave a really heart-rending speech
about her treatment and how important it is to help Christie's.
It really is an amazing place, and we will do all we
can to support it.
The evening was so successful, the girls
have already booked their next ball into the diary for
next April
when they hope to top £10,000.
