Businessmen in Atherton have banded together to raise
more than £5,000 for The Christie, Europe's
largest cancer treatment and research centre.
The Atherton
Business Charity Fund, an organisation set up to help
local causes, has been raising money for
many years, but decided this year to host a gentleman's
dinner.
Thanks to the support of comedian Jim Bowen and
well known after dinner speaker Mike King, the evening,
which
was held at Le Rendezvous restaurant in Astley, raised £5,850
for breast cancer research at Christie's.
Organiser
Peter Lloyd said: “Unfortunately, everyone
knows someone who has been treated at Christie's.
My sister is a patient and is having treatment at the
moment, and when we were deciding which charity to support,
it was the obvious choice.”
Members of the organising
committee met with Christie representatives to hand over
the donation recently. Seen

are Peter Lloyd, Christie representative Pat Sharpe,
Roy Hupton, Dave Bond, Paul Neal and Allan Cartwright.
Peter
added: “We're thrilled with how successful
it was and hope the money will help The Christie with
its important research. We'd like to thank everyone
who donated prizes and gave the support to make the evening
possible.”
