STEVE
TAKES THE HIGH ROAD FOR CHRISTIE'S
Steve is pictured with Christie regional appeals officer Jacky Plant.
A man from Crosby has put his best foot forward, walking more than 170 miles
in just eleven days to raise money for Europe's largest specialist cancer treatment
centre.
Steve Etheridge, IT manager at Everton Football Club, decided to undertake
the mammoth challenge after hearing the personal experiences of friends
and family who have been affected by cancer.
Steve, who only started serious walking three years ago, braved the
wind and the rain of the Scottish Highlands, walking from Glasgow to
Inverness.
Steve's trip has raised an impressive £4,000 for Christie's, the charity which raises money for The Christie in Manchester
which provides specialist treatment for cancer patients from all over
the North-west.
He said: "I started walking when I thought it was about time I
did something for charity. Before than, the furthest I'd ever walked
was back home after missing the last bus on a night out.
"Fortunately, although the weather wasn't great, it wasn't as bad
as it could have been for Scotland, and I was very pleased to complete
the trip in 11 days. I'm delighted I've raised such a large amount and
I'd like to thank the people who have supported me, including everyone
at Everton Football Club."
