left to right with Christie regional The Christie charity Jacky Plant is Steve Jackson, Dave Berry and Simon Hendley
A Prestwich man who survived cancer has strapped on his hiking boots,
walking from one side of the country to the other to raise money
for The Christie where he was treated.
Steve Jackson, aged
31, was joined by friends Dave Berry from Eccles and Simon Hendley from
Glossop in the mammoth trek, which saw them
covering almost 200 miles in just eleven days.
So far, they have raised
a magnificent £4,700 for the specialist
cancer treatment centre, but they are hopeful a few more donations
will help them hit their £5,000 target.
Steve, who lives in Prestwich
with this wife Diane and works for the RAC, was diagnosed with testicular
cancer year and visited the
Christie regularly for chemotherapy treatment.
He said: "I owe the
staff at Christie's so much. They did a wonderful job with my treatment.
I still have to visit for regular
check-ups, but fingers crossed, things are looking hopeful for the
future, so this was my way of saying thank you."
The walk saw Steve
and his friends covering the breadth of the country from St Bees in Cumbria
to Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire.
Steve added: "It was really
hard work, but we had a fantastic time and I'd do it all over again if
it meant raising more money
for Christie's. It really is a fantastic place and I intend to do
whatever I can to support them."
