Press Release - 31st October 2003
Insurance Broker Guarantees £20,000 Return For Christie's
Manchester United legend Bryan Robson (third left)
turned up to help present the cheque to The Christie regional appeals
officer Rachel Roberts.
Crossing golf clubs with Rachel is Mike Regan, of UK & Ireland Insurance
Services,
with colleagues (from 2nd left) Martin Hoult, Kevin McNeill and James Wrynne,
managing director.
UK and Ireland Insurance Services have chipped in a terrific £20,000
for the
The Christie, Manchester's specialist cancer centre.
The Altrincham-based broker has raised the impressive sum from a series of golf
days and other events.
Their latest, a tournament at Northenden Golf Club, generated £6,600 and was
their most successful to date. A £1,500 donation from a sportsmen's dinner held
by Manchester Kilroe Tug O' War team and organised by Irish businessman Billy
Reilly brought to £8,100 the total presented to Christie fundraising officer
Rachel Roberts.
Says Rachel: "UK and Ireland are wonderful supporters -
always keen to help Christie's. We're very grateful for their loyalty and their
magnificent efforts on our behalf. The expertise of Christie research scientists
is recognised internationally and this latest cheque is large enough to buy
an important piece of equipment for their fight against cancer".
During the tournament some 70 golfers from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland
completed 18 holes. All the holes and the competition prizes were sponsored
by clients and business contacts of UK and Ireland, which also has offices
in Dublin and Abergavenny.
An auction featured such impressive prizes as an executive box and six tickets
for a Manchester United game, donated by Recomac Surfacing, Altrincham; a signed
United shirt from Reds player John O'Shea; a signed Manchester City shirt given
by Andrew McHale of Altrincham solicitors A. McHale and Co, and a golf shirt
donated by well known Irish golfer Padraig Harrington.
Says UK and Ireland director Kevin McNeill: "A big thank you for their
magnificent support to everyone connected with the golf day. We're already
planning next year's - at Northenden Golf Club on August 20 - so we look forward
to seeing them all again and hope they'll be equally generous in helping us
to raise more cash for Christie's".
