Julie Parkinson - displaying their Bike Ride medals.
Their clients like to take a chance but four employees of Tote
Credit, Wigan, knew they'd backed a winner when they
asked colleagues to sponsor them in a 56-mile pedal
push to raise cash for The Christie.
When keen cyclists Julie
Parkinson, Race Room Administrator, and Elaine Wright,
Select Operator, announced they were taking part in this year's Manchester
to Blackpool Bike Ride, Graphic Designer Andrew Watson and Rob Davies,
Shop Communications Assistant Manager, offered to join them.
The
500-plus staff at the betting organisation's giant call centre
also supported a dress down weekend and a raffle,
all resulting in a handsome£ 1,000 cheque for the specialist Manchester cancer centre.
Says Julie: "Everyone was keen to help, especially as we have
just lost a colleague to cancer. Conversely, many
of us know people whose lives have been saved by Christie's.
" During the ride the four of us cycled together and crossed the
finishing line as a team. It was a great experience
and a good team-building exercise. We're planning
to do it again for Christie's next year and more staff are talking of joining us."
Julie adds that Tote Credit management were very supportive, providing back-up
for the ride and transport home - courtesy of employees Sue Glover and
Michael Jennings. ASDA, Wigan, donated tee shirts. Tote Credit
also gave the raffle's first prize - two tickets for
the prestigious annual Tote Ebor race meeting in York.
Says Christie's Special Projects Officer Dawn Rodgers: "We're
thrilled with the amount raised and the continuing
support from Tote Credit staff. This year's Manchester
to Blackpool Bike Ride attracted 4,000 entrants and raised a
record £100,000 for Christie's. If you're interested in
riding for us next year, contact the Appeals Office on 0161 446 3988".
