Tony Bottles Out -To Christie's Benefit
Tony Parr handing cash to Dawn Rodgers, of Christie's.
It
takes bottle for a businessman to deprive his customers of their
annual Christmas booze. But Tony Parr is no Scrooge - and he's sure
that his clients will take
the loss of their whisky gifts in the right spirit....
For Tony, managing director of Rochdale-based BMS Superfactors, has given the
money saved - £2,000 including a donation from the company - to The Christie
Hospital specialist cancer centre. And he'd like to see other businesses following
suit.
"The seasonal round of corporate gifts is so hackneyed
as to be almost meaningless," says Tony, "I'm sure my customers would
rather see the money going to a good, local cause like Christie's than have
it spent on bottles of booze which no-one's bothered about anyway. If other
companies did this we would all be acting in the true spirit of Christmas and
might actually
help to save lives."
Accepting the money, Christie special projects officer Dawn Rodgers agrees: "This
is a magnificent gesture by Tony and his customers, who I'm sure won't mind
sacrificing a bottle of whisky in order to help fight cancer. Many North West
businesses are generous to us but this is one way in which they, and their
customers, could give a little extra help. We all like to have the
feel good factor at Christmas and mini sacrifices such as these can make us
feel better about ourselves. It would certainly make a huge difference to our
patients".
Established for 20 years, BMS Superfactors also has branches in Oldham and
Dukinfield and sells motor parts to independent garages throughout Greater
Manchester.
Adds Tony: "Many companies may have already distributed gifts to customers
this year. So I appeal to other North West businesses to break with tradition
in 2004 and give the money to charity instead"
