Press Release - 17th September 2002
Christie Appeals Director to spearhead fundraising at London
hospital
Angela Roden
Angela Roden, the high-profile Appeals Director at
The Christie is to lead a fundraising team at a London
cancer hospital.
Following eight years
of outstanding success at The Christie, Angela is moving to the
Royal Marsden Hospital to take on a new role leading the hospital's
fundraising team.
Angela Roden said;
" I am very sad to leave The Christie, but this is an exciting new
challenge. Our work has always been a team effort, and I will be
leaving an excellent Fundraising Team to carry on the important work
that helps make this hospital so special.
" I have felt proud and privileged to work at The Christie, and
it has been a most rewarding and meaningful job. I will always hold
The Christie very dear to my heart and will follow the developments
of this great hospital with interest."
The Christie receives about £5 million a year from its appeals
work and has more than 2000 fundraisers. As Appeals Director Angela
has focused her managerial skills on directly involving companies,
communities, and individuals across the North West of England to encourage
them to raise funds, offer free help, and help raise the appeal's
profile.
One of Angela's proudest
moments was the success of The Christie's centenary appeal.
The Christie proved beyond even it's wildest expectations how strong
public support and affection is when it ran the 'Christie's appeal' to mark the hospital's centenary. The Appeal was
launched in May 1997 and within just four years we had achieved
its £25 million target, making it the most successful charity appeal
ever mounted outside London.
Whilst leading the centenary appeal, Angela was herself diagnosed
with breast cancer. She stayed involved with the appeal throughout
her treatment and was in the office whenever possible. Angela returned
to work full time in February 2001. This gave her the chance to
work with her team on the last lap of the appeal.
Joanna Wallace, Chief Executive of The Christie said;
" This is an exciting and challenging move for Angela. It is testament
to her fantastic success here at The Christie. Angela has established
the very best team here, and our appeals efforts will continue as
strongly as always. We wish her the very best in her new role."
Angela leaves The Christie on 11th October. The post will be advertised
and until an appointment is made Toni Leden, currently Deputy Appeals
Director will act as director.
Cally Palmer, Chief Executive of The Royal Marsden Hospital said;
"We are delighted to welcome Angela to our team. Angela brings with
her an outstanding track record in fundraising, and we are confident
she will be as successful here as she was at The Christie."
The Royal Marsden Hospital was founded in 1851 and has sites in
Chelsea and Sutton, Surrey.
