The fantastically successful fundraising of The Christie's
Stockport support group continued with their latest event, a sportsmen's
dinner which generated nearly £5,000.
Former Manchester United player and manager Wilf McGuinness was
a special guest at the dinner, held at the Acton Court Hotel, Stockport.
Comedian Mike Farrell and MC Vince Miller entertained the 200 guests,
who bid generously in an auction and raised £1,800 towards the overall
total. Prizes included signed Manchester United, Manchester City
and West Ham footballs, a Rio Ferdinand signed shirt and an Ebel
watch.
Wilf McGuinness, Gill Tushingham, Vince Miller
and Mike Farrell with a Rio Ferdinand signed shirt donated for the
auction.
Gill Tushingham, chair of Stockport Campaigners for Christie, says:
"Everyone had a great evening - I d like to thank them for
digging deep into their pockets. I told them about the wonderful
work that Christie's does and how the fight against cancer always
needs more funding".
In just a few years the Stockport group has raised well over £140,000
for Christie's. Now the loyal team are looking for a few more local
people to help with their fundraising efforts.
"You just need a little spare time and the belief that the
rest of us share - that cancer will eventually be conquered as long
as enough of us are willing to help bring in the necessary cash.
It s a serious aim but reaching towards it is sociable and fun,
and we have a lot of support from Christie's The Christie charity,"
adds Gill.
