THE JOKE'S ON CHRISTIE'S
FACT members Celebrated comedian and actor John Thomson of tv's Cold Feet and Fast
Show fame is topping the bill at Stand-Up For Christie's, a side-splitting
show at The Comedy Store, Manchester, on Tuesday, November 13, in
support of the specialist cancer centre
John
and four other well known North West wise-crackers are generously
appearing free of charge to ensure the event raises much more than
a lot of laughs. Also giving out quick-fire gags will be Dave Spikey,
from Chorley, Lancs, Justin Moorhouse, from Denton, 'Barnsley Boy'
Toby Foster - all regulars of Channel 4's Phoenix Nights - and Alan
Carr, from Chorlton Green, a recent winner of the BBC s 'New Talent'
comedy competition.
John's appearance is a mark of his ongoing support for the hospital.
An example is the wildly funny hand-coloured card he sent for Christie's
100th birthday this year. That and other celebrity cards were auctioned
and raised several hundred pounds for the fantastically successful
centenary appeal.
It was this willingness to help that prompted the hospital to organise
Stand-Up For Christie's, with generous sponsorship from law firm Hammond
Suddards Edge.
Says Christie Projects Manager Paul Bailey: "Many cancers are
fully treatable - it's no longer a doom and gloom scenario - which
is why we're raising a laugh to raise cash. Stand-up comedians have
to be good to impress Manchester audiences so I'm thrilled to have
the support of the best. When prominent law firm Hammond Suddards
Edge offered sponsorship I knew we were onto a winner".
William Downs, Managing Partner of Hammond Suddards Edge, agrees:
"A sense of humour is vital to everyone's wellbeing and I'm sure
it must help a lot of cancer patients cope with their illness. I understand
that recovery rates from the disease are improving all the time -
and that's something we can all feel cheerful about".
Money raised from the show, which starts at 8pm, will help boost those
rates still further by supporting Christie's charitable funds for
equipment and research.
Tickets, £10 each, are available from 24-hour ticketmaster hotline
08705 932 932 or from the Comedy Store Box Office open Wednesday-Saturday
from 12 noon. Ticketmaster will donate 50p of the booking fee for
each ticket to Christie's.
So support Stand-Up for Christie's and get legless - with laughter...
