Press Release - 11th September 2001
Managers to push 48 pedals on just one bike!
A team of North West managers is about to tackle a very mean machine...
they re going to ride a 24-seater bike 15 miles around Manchester
to raise cash for The Christie.
The "averagely fit" squad aged 20 to mid-50s is the fundraising
committee organising the Whitbread group's campaign to raise £250,000
for the Manchester cancer centre.
"We thought we should lead from the front as doers as well as
organisers. Although we're all a bit apprehensive about this huge
bike, I'm sure it will be great fun...." says Colin Broadhurst,
general manager of The Priory Wood Beefeater and Travel Inn, Wigan,
who will be taking part in the ride.
Setting off from the hospital at 11am on Sunday, September 16, they
will cruise at 10 to 15 mph to various Whitbread outlets where staff
are organising fundraising activities. These include the Cafe Rouge
and Pizza Hut in Didsbury, Pizza Hut in White City, the Beefeater
and Travel Inn at Salford Quays, on to the Trafford Centre to Brewsters,
the Orangerie and other outlets, ending at the David Lloyd Leisure
Centre, Cheadle.
The riders represent most of the different Whitbread outlets - Brewers
Fayre, Marriott Hotels, Ristorante Amalfi, TGI Fridays, Bella Pasta,
Costa Coffee and Threshers, plus those mentioned above.
Says Angela Roden, The Christie Appeals Director: "Whitbread
have set a very ambitious fundraising target but with novel initiatives
like these to capture people's imagination I've no doubt they will
achieve it. We are very grateful for their support".
