The Walk of Hope
Put your best foot forward for The Christie
Delia Clarke, Matthew Currall, Louise Blyth, Joe Machin, Keith Bellass
The date has now been confirmed for this year’s Walk of Hope. The event will take place on the late afternoon / evening of Saturday 11th September, once again through the stunning surroundings of Tatton Park.
The walk sees family and friends uniting in honour of those who are currently being treated at The Christie, along with those who are saying thank you for their successful care and treatment and those who are remembering loved ones who have sadly lost their battle by taking part in this 10km walk. This event is suitable for people of all ages and all fitness levels, so all are welcome to join us. Midway through the walk there is a moment for reflection, as loved ones get to throw a pebble emblazoned with the name of the person they are taking part in honour of into the mere at Tatton.
The event culminates with a moving and uplifting candlelit vigil held by The Christie chaplain.
Last year saw hundreds of walkers uniting as Team Christie in their stand against cancer, and this year we hope to see even more walkers at this stunning and often moving event.

The Walk of Hope – Volunteering Opportunities
The Walk of Hope is a truly moving and inspirational event which see’s walkers taking part in support loved one’s who are currently receiving treatment at The Christie, alongside those who are saying thank you for the successful treatment that they have received and those who are remembering loved ones who have sadly lost their battle.
We do appreciate though that a 10km walk is not suitable for everybody. If you would like to show your support at this years event, but do not want to take part in the walk itself, then you may be interested in volunteering? We are looking for ‘Team Christie’ volunteers to help with the smooth running of the event.
The main roles that we are looking for assistance with are…
Marshalls:
At each of the ten km marks we will be looking for marshalls to guide the walkers as they get to their point and to give them words of support and encouragement to help them through their walk.
Refreshment Assistants:
We will be providing refreshments at the 5km mark, and would be looking for volunteers to help with the preparation and distribution of these refreshments.
Parking Assistants:
Both directing participants to the parking pre event and also guiding walkers out of Tatton Park once the event finishes and it gets dark.
General Support:
We would be looking for volunteers to help us prepare and decorate the start and finish areas for our walkers both pre event and before they return.
How to contact The Christie?
We would be looking for volunteers to arrive at Tatton Park at 3:00pm for a final team briefing, and it is expected that everybody will be finished at around about 8:30pm.
If you are interested in joining us on the day, or would like additional information, then please contact the Sporting Events Team on 0161 446 3400 or email events@christies.org.
