Event fundraising hints & tips
Taking part in a sporting event can be exhausting work – but raising sponsor money doesn't have to be.
Follow these simple fundraising hints & tips and help us raise even more vital funds for The Christie.
- Always carry your sponsorship form with you – you will be surprised by how much people will want to get behind you as you support the work of The Christie.
- Maximise your final gift to The Christie by making sure any UK taxpaying sponsors tick the gift aid box – this increases their gift by 28pence for every £1 they sponsor you. Please remember that to qualify for gift aid your sponsors must provide their full home address on the sponsorship form – the information that they provide will not be used for any other purposes other than claiming the gift aid from the inland revenue.
- Create a safe and secure online donations page at www.justgiving.com It takes just five minutes to create your page, but will save you hours after the event as all of the money donated via the site comes direct to Christie's. Once you have created your page email the link to all of your friends families and work colleagues, add it to your e-signature or if you have a press release in the run up to the event make sure they mention the page.
- Find out if you work offers a matched giving scheme. Many companies will match the amount you raise or make a generous donation in support of your challenge. Speak with your charity committee or human resources department to see if your company offers this.
- Set yourself an achievable target, or if you have secured a charity place for an event you will have a minimum sponsorship target to reach and keep you motivated. Keep your supporters updated on your progress and encourage them to promote your challenge to their networks too.
- If your target is high then why not also plan a string of charity events to boost your pot and get others involved with the fun too. Car boot sales, charity quiz nights or even charity dinners and balls – all are a great way to raise money and people will give generously helping to support your challenge whilst raising vital funds for The Christie.
