The Great North Swim

The Great North Swim is a one mile open water swim taking place in Lake Windermere and is the first event of its kind in the UK. The event is now in its third year and hopes to grow into the largest swim in Europe!
Taking its inspiration from the Bupa Great North Run, the Great North Swim is a mass participation event providing a challenge for which the participant can train and prepare.
The 2009 Great North Swim was a huge success and included top class talent from around the world including elite swimmers; Joanne Jackson, Keri-Anne Payne, Tom Allen and David Davies. The Christie had 128 swimmers in last year’s event and we hope to have an even bigger team in 2010!

Public registration for the 2010 British Gas Great North Swim has now closed. If you have been unsuccessful in securing your own place, but would still like to swim for The Christie, you may wish to consider applying for a charity place in this year’s event. The Christie has a limited number of charity places in the swim. Our guaranteed entry places will be available in return for a registration fee of £35 together with a pledge to raise a minimum sponsorship of £200 – if you would like to be considered for one of our places then please complete the online application form.
All our swimmers will receive excellent pre and post swim support from our expert events team who will also be on hand over the weekend to welcome our swimmers after they have completed the swim.
