About us
Christie's is the charity which raises funds for the Christie Hospital, and is the second largest hospital charity in the country in terms of fundraising.
The Christie was first established in 1901 through generous donations - and fundraising has continued to support vital developments for more than a century. Our charity currently raises around £12 million per annum which helps pay for research, new equipment, building developments, specialist staff and wide range initiatives to support patients.
The appeals team has been running for over 15 years and our job is to maximise the income of our charity, through proactively encouraging and supporting fundraising, and to administer and acknowledge donations.
We have around 2000 fundraisers who are active in their communities. Many of them are members, patients, ex-patients, or their relatives and friends and some have been fundraising for ten years or more. Thousands of our supporters also take part in sponsored events and annual highlights including the Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride where more than 3,000 cyclists take part for our charity and the Great Manchester Run where 700 runners raised a record £150,000 last year.
Legacies also continue to make a significant contribution and the North West business community is incredibly supportive, with a wide range of corporate donations and company staff fundraising initiatives taking place each year.
In 2007 we were one of six chosen charities to work with The Manchester United Foundation. This three year partnership will raise funds to enhance the rehabilitation of our young patients.
But we want to do better. Our vision is a future without cancer and we aim to provide ever more effective treatments for our patients so their chances of surviving cancer are greatly increased.
To do this we need money. We need money to buy equipment and pay for the expertise that is crucial to making advances in treating cancer. Every advance we make buys someone more time.
Given that one in three of us are affected by cancer chances are that one day it could be you, or somebody you love. So please do what you can to support the Christie. Your help could go a long way towards paying for projects that could dramatically improve treatment for our patients and take us all towards a future without cancer.
