| This section of the Christie's website is no longer being updated. It remains online as a historical record of the astonishing success of The Christie Hospital's Centenary Appeal which raised £25m in the four years from 1997 to 2001. Fundraising is just as necessary as ever of course, to provide Real Help for Real Hope for ourselves and for future generations. Click here to bring yourself up to date with what's happening. | |

PRESS
RELEASE A hive of activity including coffee mornings, sponsored walks, tombola stalls and an Autumn Fayre climaxed in a £9,500 cheque handover for the Fleetwood Cancer Research Committee. The hard working group of volunteers handed the money over during their annual presentation night at the North Euston Hotel, Fleetwood. Special guest Gilbert Wieringa, Principal Biochemist for The Christie Hospital's state-of-the-art Diagnostic Centre, accepted the magnificent donation on behalf of Europe's largest cancer treatment centre. The group has been raising cash and public awareness for almost 50 years and is looking forward to its golden jubilee next year. In the meantime, local people who want to support the team's efforts
could attend a coffee morning in the Trafalgar Restaurant on North Street on Friday 22nd June from 10am to 12noon. The event includes a Christine Blease, of The Christie's Appeals Office, said: "The Fleetwood team has a tremendous track record for raising cash in fun ways. Their enthusiasm and commitment throughout the year are uplifting for everyone involved in combating cancer at The Christie." The Christie - which treats thousands of Lancashire patients each year, especially those with rare or complex cancers - is just short of the £25m it aimed to raise by its Centenary this year. The Christie's appeal supports research and development
into cancer diagnosis and is expanding a series of interlinked projects to bring "kinder", shorter and more successful treatment and care to
North West patients. Ends |
