PRESS
RELEASE
Manager Saleem Ahmed of Astley Bridge, Bolton (left) and his colleagues had no special reason for helping the hospital's £25m centenary appeal. "But we have seen in the press what others have been doing for the 'Christie's' appeal and decided we also wanted to help," explained Saleem. So, in just three weeks, the popular 300 seater Wilmslow road restaurant, specialising in Pakistani, Indian and Nepalese cuisine, raised £2.004 for the centenary appeal of Manchester's famous cancer centre. They ran a £1 a ticket raffle among customers for a widescreen tv plus a special meal for four. Saleem, a professional magician, also entertained guests with his tricks as waiters sold tickets instead of accepting tips. Bert, who is chairman of Christie's South Manchester fund raising supporters' team, was most impressed at the quick result and by the dishes offered by (left to right) Saleem, consultant chef Azam Ahmed, restaurant owner Fiaz Ali and staff member Khalid Mustaq.
