PRESS RELEASE
29 April 2001
Darts and dominoes top-up pub's Christie effort

Bob takes care of the moneyStaff and customers at Bramhall's Ladybrook pub gave themselves a year to raise £1,000 for the 'Christie's' appeal by running darts and domino competitions plus 'a few other events'.

To their delight, they have exceeded their target in less than six months and invited ardent Christie campaigner Bob Mathews to receive their £1,072 contribution.

Bob (second left) is chairman of the hospital's Stockport Campaigners' supporters group who are dedicated to helping the £25m centenary appeal of Manchester's famous cancer centre. He is shown receiving the cheque from landlords Mike Parsons (far left) and some of the pub's darts and snooker players.

"We wanted to help Christie's because it is so dear to everyone's hearts." explained Mike who, with wife Christine, has now moved on to running the 'The Plough' at Ashton-on-Mersey. "We all know someone who has been affected by cancer, including certain regulars, and our customers have certainly supported us. We ran some pub game competitions, plus raffles and charged £1 admission at Christmas. There was also a couple of jars for loose change on the counter and we even got over £100 in those."
