PRESS RELEASE
28 April 2001
Simon's 'brothers' lead his £21,000 tribute

Not singing the bluesFamily, friends, work mates and local footballers all gave incredible support to a 'Blues Bros. Night' in memory of Simon Yorke of Marple which has created a £21,000 trust fund for his two children.

Some 750 people, the men mostly dressed as look-alikes with their partners in themed black and white outfits, thronged Manchester's Palace Hotel for the tribute dinner dance evening.

In the middle of the event Simon's employers, leading sportswear suppliers SSL International of Knutsford also donated £1,000 to the 'Christie's' appeal in appreciation of the treatment and care given by Manchester's cancer centre after Simon developed the disease. Simon (39), was a key account manager with SSL and some of his closest friends supported the company's UK managing director Dave Nisbett (right) and sales director Brian Ruane (left) as they presented their cheque to Christie's regional appeals officer Christine Blease (left).

As a young teenager Simon was on Manchester City's books. He later played for Irlam Town and other Eccles and Salford sides, Monton Amateurs, Mitchel Shackleton, Doughty Rangers, plus Maine Road and Flixton and his special evening was supported by club players throughout the Manchester amateur leagues.

Firms in Trafford Park also helped with sponsorships through fund chairman John Camilleri of John's Diner, who was aided by many of Simon's friends. A highlight was a money spinning dance set, specially rehearsed and so well performed by his 'brothers' that they earned an encore.
