PRESS RELEASE
13th March 2001
Sandra Rises to the Challenge for Christie's

Sandra with Jacky PlantRaising £1,000 for charity proved to be no uphill struggle for one local lass!

Sporty Sandra Snape, from Blackburn, rose to the challenge of running a road-race around the hills of Snowdonia, determined to raise £1,000 for the world-famous Christie Hospital.

However, 36-year-old Sandra has outrun all expectations by presenting a cheque to Europe's leading cancer care centre for £1,823!

Sandra said: "I couldn't believe it when the money kept coming in. As well as the personal sponsorship for the Snowdonia marathon, I took collections at my local Morrison's store, which helped to boost the final amount.

"I put together a small exhibition about running and marathons which raised interest with shoppers, who kindly donated money to the cause."

Sandra (right) handed over the cheque to The Christie's Regional Appeals Officer, Jacky Plant, at the hospital.

Jacky said: "We're delighted with the money that Sandra has raised, which will go towards Christie's 'Double Doughnut' East Lancashire appeal. Its aim is to raise £1.5m for a revolutionary Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner, which will be the only one of its type outside London."

Sandra is now planning her next challenge and fancies doing a marathon abroad, even though she has already completed the New York marathon.

But, for now she'll have to make do with Blackpool's Golden Mile as she prepares for the Blackpool marathon in June.
