PRESS RELEASE
1st March 2001
Toddlers tot up £250 for Christie's

Toddle to the top

These are some of the 24 tots from Withington and Didsbury areas who by toddling up this bank reached the summit of their ambitions for - 'Christie's'.

By tottering to the top they gained a clear view of Europe's largest single site cancer centre - as well as some £250 to help its £25m centenary appeal.

To raise the money the youngsters, aged from six months to five years, braved rain and wind to complete a sponsored walk (or push) from their Kiddiwinks Nursery in Withington to the hospital. They were guided by seven staff members plus nine helpers and parents.

At the top they were received by Christie's regional appeals officer Jacky Plant (far right). She thanked the group for their efforts towards the centenary appeal and its aims of funding research, new patient facilities and more effective cancer treatments.

"None of the kiddies had ever done anything like this before," said nursery manager Lynda Clanachan. "We wanted to give them a little experience of the value of helping others and one of our staff suggested doing a sponsored mini-walk for Christie's."
