Yet this was only one of the novel theme dress days staged throughout the year by most of the 450 staff at Direct Line's Peter Street Manchester offices. By paying £1 and £2 a time for the privilege they have raised a further £5,000 towards the £25m centenary appeal of Manchester's renowned cancer centre. Christie's projects manager Paul Bailey (right) who went to receive their latest contribution from head of regional resources Chris Dunn, regional PA Christine Parker and team leader Eleanor Bromley was suprised to find that their famous wheeled phones actually work. Explained Christine Parker: " Our staff balloted years ago to support Christie's appeal and we have worked for it ever since. We have a sports and social committee who plan events and some staff also took part in a special abseil down Manchester Town Hall for the hospital. Its great that we have now raised £15,000 in total and we intend to keep on fund raising." Ends For further
