RELEASE
Landlord Eric Occlestone (right) is shown presenting the money to Christie's Appeal Tameside Section (CATS) group. It was received by treasurer Janet Power (left) and members Mel Tierney (third left) and Christine Johnstone (second right). Looking on are customers Jimmy and Joan Mac who entertained during a special charity night for Christie's which raised another £98. It is the second year that the Hyde centre pub has staged an event for Christie's. They ran the raffle for Manchester's famous cancer centre in memory of a customer who was a patient and also in appreciation of the care given to Eric's wife Dorothy when she was successfully treated for breast cancer in 1983. Top of a mass of prizes was a combined TV video set plus a radio CD player. Customers donated other prizes and the result was further boosted by football card sales. CATS collected the money on behalf of the hospital taking them ever closer to £60,000 that they have raised and brought in since they began just over two years ago. Hardly suprising that, with support like this, Christie's are now within the final one million pounds of their centenary appeal target. Much of the money received is already being used to fund research, new patient facilities and the development of more effective and 'kinder' cancer treatments. Ends For further
