PRESS RELEASE

Script helps TLC to get 'streets ahead'

Christie's TLC group get ready for their Valentine's event with chair Pam Goldfine (centre) holding the champagne.

Christie's Tender Loving Care supporters' group had a most desirable attraction for a Valentine's event which proved so succesful that it has swept them past the £70,000 mark for Manchester's famous cancer centre.

It was not champagne, chocolates or flowers - although there were plenty of those. Not even the dinner and lively disco enjoyed by nearly 130 guests at Prestwich's Village Leisure Club and Hotel.

No what people bid most heartily for was - the actual 'Coronation Street' script of the December 9 episode and in pristine condition.

It finally fetched £110, setting seal to a love-ly night which, with tombola and raffles, saw TLC gain £1,588.

"It means that we have now raised over £70,000 for the 'Christie's' appeal since we began five years ago," said TLC's chair Pam Goldfine.

Her enterprising women's group are determined to keep on working for Christie's, their next major event being a Ladies Night at the Lynwood Lodge, Bennett Road, Crumpsall, on May 2.
