RELEASE Elsie and Barbara waltz past their £20,000 target
Because Elsie Lockie (left) and Barbara Stott have waltzed past their target. They were able to present a further £4,125 to Prof. Tim Eden, head of the young people's unit at The Christie, Manchester's renowned cancer centre taking them beyond £21,000. All their money has been used to buy medical equipment or to improve facilities for the young patients. For the last ten years Elsie Lockie (left) and Barbara Stott, who both live in Milnrow, have held an annual dance at the local Conservative Club as a thank you to Christie's for Elsie's successful treatment for breast cancer. Each year about 250 people support them, including their families, friends and neighbours, boosted by club members and those of Milnrow Cricket and Rochdale Crown Green Bowling clubs. In each of the last two years the duo have also run successful cabaret evenings at the cricket club. "We went into this year's ball needing another £3,000 to reach our target", explained Elsie, a retired driving instructor. "But people were so supportive we actually raised another £4,125. It's wonderful and so we so want to thank everyone who has helped us." But it's not their last waltz just yet. She and Barbara, a retired assistant buyer, are already placing tickets for their eleventh event. 'The Fallen Angels' band are re-booked and there will be the usual potato pie supper. Only the date has changed - December 1. Ends For further
