PRESS RELEASE
12th January 2001
Diane and friends run up £2,300

Diane and friendsNo less than £2,300 was the result that really mattered after Diane Sita and friends from Standish's Dog and Partridge pub tackled the 10K Blackpool Fun Run.

Diane, who is a customer liaison officer for NatWest Bank at Haydock, first made the run in 1999. But she wanted to do it again to help the 'Christie's' appeal as she has been successfully treated for breast cancer at Manchester's famous cancer centre.

Her friend Lorraine Bowden who works at the pub, other friends and customers, plus some of Diane's bank colleagues, all rallied round. About a dozen ran with them in the Blackpool event, supported by families, friends and workmates.

Now that all the money is finally in Diane and Lorraine have been able to present a hefty cheque to Carl Sharpe, chairman of Christie's Wigan and Leigh supporters' group, together with their regular running friends Graham Aspey, Dave Blackledge and Paul Carr.

The money further swells Christie's £25m centenary appeal. The fund, which is being used for ground-breaking research, to create innovative patient facilities and develop more effective and 'kinder' cancer treatments, has now topped £23m.
