A regular runner, Jason (30) of Mossley, tackled his first 26 miler by entering the Manchester Marathon to raise funds for the city's renowned cancer centre, in appreciation of the treatment given to colleague Colin Thompson of Droylsden (centre) for throat cancer. The two men work together for Droylsden Caravans on Ashton Old Road where Colin (41) is workshop manager. Jason was satisfied with his running time - a more than respectable 4 hrs 20 mins for a first attempt. But he was delighted that,, thanks to the support of family, friends and work mates, he had raised £650 - received by Eunice Whittle (right) an ardent member of Christie's Tameside CATS supporters team. It all adds to the hospital's £25m centenary appeal. The fund, which aims to finance research, innovative patient facilities and to develop more effective and 'kinder' cancer treatments, has now topped £23m. Jason plans to enter the marathon again this year to further help Christie's cause. Ends For further
