RELEASE Fire recruits lap up £1,7000 for Christie's
In total 27 recruits from all over Greater Manchester ran ten miles around Heaton Park, being sponsored by their families and friends. The men raised £1,740 which they wanted to go to the 'Christie's' centenary appeal. They are shown, bearing both Christie's regional appeals officer Jacky - and their cheque - at their training HQ off Thompson street in Manchester city centre. Said Sub Officer Denis Burney who helped to organise the run: "Each group of recruits is asked to do a sponsored event for the charity or charities of their choice. These lads who are about to be posted to stations throughout Greater Manchester wanted all their money to go to Christie's because it is such a very good cause." Over £23m has now been raised towards Christie's £25m target for funding research, creating new patient facilities and developing more effective and 'kinder' cancer treatments. Ends For further
