| This section of the Christie's website is no longer being updated. It remains online as a historical record of the astonishing success of The Christie Hospital's Centenary Appeal which raised £25m in the four years from 1997 to 2001. Fundraising is just as necessary as ever of course, to provide Real Help for Real Hope for ourselves and for future generations. Click here to bring yourself up to date with what's happening. | |

RELEASE Fundraising Group Sing and Dance Their Way to £400
Fundraising group 'COURT ELAN' of the Independent Order of Foresters - so-called because they represent towns in East Lancashire - held a Dinner Dance at the Comfort Friendly Inn, in Burnley, for over 45 people. The evening included a meal, cabaret and disco. The twelve-strong fundraising committee has also raised the money through the sale of raffle tickets. Jean Ormarod (pictured left), of the fundraising group, said: "We had a fantastic night of entertainment at the same time raising money for a worthwhile charity. "We have been fundraising for The Christie for the last twelve months and intend to do so for at least another twelve months!" During the evening, the money was handed over to Paul Massey (pictured right), of The Christie Crusaders, an officially recognised fundraising group for The Christie Hospital. In particular, the money will go towards The Christie's 'Double Doughnut' East Lancashire appeal which aims to raise £1.5m to buy a revolutionary Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scanner for the world famous hospital - the only scanner of its type outside London. It will allow a whole new approach to surgical procedures and greater accuracy in the delivery of treatment, thereby reducing the risks and time taken to perform procedures like biopsies and treatment of tumours. Many Lancashire patients, particularly those with rare or more complex cancers, are treated by The Christie each year.
