| This section of the Christie's website is no longer being updated. It remains online as a historical record of the astonishing success of The Christie Hospital's Centenary Appeal which raised £25m in the four years from 1997 to 2001. Fundraising is just as necessary as ever of course, to provide Real Help for Real Hope for ourselves and for future generations. Click here to bring yourself up to date with what's happening. | |

RELEASE Climbing Africa's highest peak for Christie's Marketing manager Daniel White feels himself "almost fated" to get to grips with Africa's highest mountain - Kilimanjaro. "I have been to Africa several times and on occasion very close to Kilimanjaro which is in Tanzania," explained Daniel (33) who lives in Didsbury and is marketing manager for Henri Lloyd in Worsley. "I have even flown over it, and I suppose this is something I am meant to do." So, on October 10th, Daniel sets out to scale it. He will be in a special party and reckons it will take them a week to reach the top and two days to get back down again. But it's not the 19,400 ft summit that is uppermost in his mind. It is the £6,500 he hopes to raise for the 'Christie's' appeal if he is successful. Daniel has friends who have been treated at Manchester's world famous cancer centre and he has been actively helping raise money for the hospital for some time. Mostly this has been with co-members of Windermere Motor Boat Racing Club who, over three years, have raised some £11,000 for specific research projects at the hospital. But this time Daniel is devoting his efforts to helping Christie's £25m centenary appeal and its goals of funding research, new patient facilities and developing more effective and 'kinder' cancer treatments. His sponsors for the climb include his Windermere based parents Peter, a retired textile director, and Valerie, a Bolton magistrate, plus friends, workmates, business suppliers and associates. Daniel who comes from Lostock, Bolton, attended Bolton School before embarking on a successful career in textile marketing. Having previously trekked in the Himalayas. He is now doing strenuous gym workouts plus altitude training and "fairly confident" he will make it up the famous mountain - if the weather holds. Ends For further information contact
