It remains online as a historical record of the astonishing success of The Christie Hospital's Centenary Appeal which raised £25m in the four years from 1997 to 2001. Fundraising is just as necessary as ever of course, to provide Real Help for Real Hope for ourselves and for future generations. Click here to bring yourself up to date with what's happening. | |

RELEASE Taking cancer cause to the top of the world
So they are going on a sponsored trek - to the base camp of Everest. It means finding £2,500 plus of their own money for their 'holiday' from October 6 when they fly to Kathmandu and then on to Lukkla to face a 14 day slog. It's some 70 miles and decidedly uphill all the way. They will set off from 9,000 ft in day time temperatures of 80 degrees yet have to cope with zero and minus ten at night by the time they reach the base at a truly breath-taking 18,500 ft. Peter, (35) a chartered surveyor with the Emerson Group in Alderley Edge, has been to the Himalayas before and trekked to the 14,000 ft base camp of Annapurna in Nepal seven years ago. Yet it's all strange new ground for his wife who, as Deborah Lord, is a commercial property solicitor with Eversheds in Manchester. Deborah (31) has also done a lot of rugged walking - in places like The Lakes, and Snowdonia with a near weekly jaunt up KinderScout which practically towers over their home. But never anything as demanding or draining as the highest peak in the world. "Debs knows how enthused I was by Nepal and she is as eager to attempt the same sort of thing as I am to go back," explained Peter. "Christie's is actually the nominated charity for both our employers who are giving us tremendous support. Family, friends and colleagues are all contributing and we seek help to raise as much as possible for the hospital. We have relatives and friends who have been affected by cancer, so Christie's was the logical and preferable choice. And where better to attempt to help them than on Everest?" If you want to aid Peter and Deborah lift the summit of their ambition they can be contacted on 01663 745798. Ends For further info: contact Peter and Deborah (as
