PRESS RELEASE
30th August 2000
Sarah's wish upon a star

Surrounded by her winning cardChristmas has come early for twelve-year-old Christie's patient, Sarah Heyworth.

The youngster, from Chorley, in Lancashire, entered her drawing for a Christie's Christmas card competition earlier this year, titled 'We All Wish Upon a Star', and is delighted to have beaten off stiff competition with her design.

Whilst at the North-West's leading cancer care centre for a routine check-up, Sarah was delighted to catch her first glimpse of her winning Christmas card.

With The Christie's centenary appeal standing at nearly £22m, money raised from the sale of Sarah's card will be used to help reach the appeal's target of £25m.

Christie's plays a vital role in treating thousands of people from Lancashire every year, particularly those with rare and more complex cancers.

Sarah is a patient on the Young Oncology Unit as she suffers from Ewings Sarcoma, a bone tumour in her left leg. She has been receiving treatment for a year and it was during one of her visits to the hospital that she decided to enter the competition.

Sarah's mum, Linda Heyworth, is delighted at her daughter's success.

She said: "I'm so pleased for Sarah. Winning the competition has really brought a smile to her face and seeing the design as a real Christmas card has been very exciting for both of us."

Sarah's design is now available from The Christie Appeals Office. To order, please call The Christie Appeals Team on 0161 446 3988.
