RELEASE Javaid scores lots of cash for The Christie
Javaid decided on the event to raise money for the North-West's leading cancer care centre, following the death of his father, Mohammed Feroze, from cancer. He said: "After the death of my father, I wanted to do something positive for cancer treatment and decided that a football tournament would be a good way to raise money. The event proved to be good fun and was great entertainment also. "With the help of my friends, we managed to secure substantial donations from local businesses prior to the event. We also held a collection on the day of the tournament and this has given us a total of £2,500 raised for The Christie's appeal, in memory of my dad." The success of the day has led Javaid to consider making it an annualevent. "It is definitely something worth thinking about, given the success of it all. It would be a fantastic tribute to my father and would raise even more money for Christie's." The money raised from the event will go towards Christie's East Lancashire appeal, which aims to raise £1.5m for a revolutionary Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scanner - the only scanner of its type outside London.
