RELEASE Their £20,000 looks at home with the 'Stars' Flanked by the likes of Diana Ross, Neil Diamond, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis, these South Manchester fund raisers hand over an impressive £20,000 cheque for The Christie's centenary appeal. The 'home team' of Manchester's famous cancer centre have raised the money in 12 months by running events from Eccles to Wythenshawe and from Didsbury to Levenshulme. They made the presentation during their latest show - a 'Stars in Their Eyes' night' at the Royals Hotel, Baguley. It was organised by Altrincham chef Dave Ockerby, known on the local entertainment circuit as Neil Diamond. Dave who lives in Stretford lost both his father and his mother in law to cancer. He decided to stage a special night for the £25m 'Christie's' appeal and was readily joined by three fellow 'stars'. Diane Shaw, an aerobics teacher from Baguley, re-created her Diana Ross performance which swept her into the national finals of the TV talent show last year. 'Frank Sinatra' was Brian Mason of Prestwich, who otherwise runs his own clothing repair business in Altrincham, Whalley Range's Andy Fisher, a porter at Withington Hospital, became 'The King' -Elvis Presley. Royals manager Richard Miller and staff helped the home team promote the event which has given a £500 start to their new fund raising campaign.
