RELEASE Christie's garden gains top award - and £9,000 A staggering £9,000 in loose change was tossed into the 'Christie's' appeal by visitors to the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park, Knutsford, Cheshire, last week. Said the cancer centre's deputy appeals director Toni Leden: "We never expected so much - it is way above the £6,000 we collected last year." Crowds were drawn to the hospital's Healing Garden, which featured flowers and plants that aid the treatment of cancers or provide healing or soothing qualities for various illnesses and ailments. Sponsored by AstraZeneca and designed by Summers Gardens of Bala, it won the coveted 'Best Show Garden' award. Coronation Street stars Jennifer James and Lee Boardman and TV presenters Heather Stott and Jenny Powell all visited the garden to support Christie's aims of increasing awareness of their £25m centenary appeal to fund research, new facilities and develop more effective cancer treatments.
