| This section of the Christie's website is no longer being updated. It remains online as a historical record of the astonishing success of The Christie Hospital's Centenary Appeal which raised £25m in the four years from 1997 to 2001. Fundraising is just as necessary as ever of course, to provide Real Help for Real Hope for ourselves and for future generations. Click here to bring yourself up to date with what's happening. | |

RELEASE
Kind-hearted children in Year 7 at Moorhead High School in Accrington made an end-of-term gesture and handed over some of their hard-earned pocket money and sweet funds in aid of The Christie. The eleven and twelve-year-olds at the school have been having weekly collections for the North-West's leading cancer care centre and raised £200 over a period of two years. Claire Simon, Year 7 Team Manager at the school, said: "The Christie was chosen by the children, as it is a really worthwhile cause. It has been our Year 7 group's nominated charity for the last two years, and the children have been donating their spare change at the end of each week to help the appeal." The money raised by the school will go straight to The Christie's appeal, in particular the East Lancashire bid to raise £1.5m for a state-of-the-art Double Doughnut MRI scanner. The scanner will allow a whole new approach to surgical procedures and greater accuracy in the delivery of treatment, thereby reducing the risks and time taken to perform procedures like biopsies and treatment of tumours. Many East Lancashire patients, especially those with rare or more complex cancers, will be among the people to benefit from the new equipment.
