And it has taken her just seven years. In 1993 Moya of Brooklands Road, Sale, began patiently standing for long hours with her collection box outside shops in Manchester, Altrincham and Wilmslow - always with their approval. She also places other Christie boxes in pubs around Sale and Altrincham district and - just as happily - collects in the money. " I love it. It is just so rewarding," says Moya ."Every time someone will come up to give and say: 'Christie's saved my life, or my mum's life or a friend's life'. One young woman said she had had cancer but now, thanks to Christie's, she had been able to have twins. It is wonderful to hear things like that and makes it really worth while". But having reached her amazing financial milestone, Moya, (left), shown being cheered by Christie regional appeals officer Ceri Johnson, has stopped street collecting for this winter for the first time ever. "I feel the cold more these days," she said sadly. Instead she will continue as a member of Altrincham and Sale Christie supporters group, having collected £36,000 of their £100,000 total so far for 'Christie's' and to act as an 'ambassador' representative for the £25m centenary appeal. Yet, if she were to cease such work altogether, Moya has built up a record few will equal. For she first began charity work as a six year old selling goods outside her home in her native Sale. For seventy years she has ceaselessly supported "'one good cause or another." She did so while running a general store in Openshaw, then a sweet shop in Sale and finally a clothing business near her present home. So how much has she collected in total? "I have just no idea," said Moya. " But if any one wants to help our group to help Christie's they have only to ring me on 0161 286 6295." Ends For more info: Christie's
