RELEASE Fundraising for The Christie goes with a bang
Fireworks and fundraising went together for members of The Christie's Fylde Fundraisers, as they helped raise lots of cash for the world famous Hospital. The Bonfire Night party - which went with a real bang - was held at the Shard Inn in Hambleton and raised £335 for Europe's leading cancer care centre. A fantastic fireworks display was organised by owner Paul Hurst outside the pub, complete with a huge bonfire. The event attracted the crowds, who were also drawn to the warmth of the hotpot supper and the fun of a raffle. Maureen Reid, Chairman of the Fylde Fundraisers, said: "As well as the hotpot supper and raffle, a surcharge was applied to the drinks. The extra money from the bar takings went straight to the appeal, and proved an ideal way for people to donate money - as the more they drank, the more they donated! "The evening was a real success and plenty of fun was had by all." The Fylde Fundraisers have been raising money for The Christie for the past two and a half years and have raised over £60,000 in total. The money has been used to help treat thousands of Lancashire patients, especially those with difficult to treat and rare cancers. Christine Blease, Regional Appeals Officer for Christie's, said: "We would like to thank the group for all their efforts in raising this money for The Christie's centenary appeal. It is thanks to the ongoing support of groups such as these that the appeal has already raised £23m." Ends For further press details, please contact Alison Gudgeon at AWPR on 01200 426663. |
