RELEASE Christie Crafters' generous 'Dough-nation'
The North West's famous Christie Hospital is one step nearer to having its revolutionary 'Double Doughnut' Magnetic Resonance Scanner (MRI), thanks to the efforts of a local fundraising team. The Rishton-based Christie Crafters have raised a staggering £8,000 through various fundraising activities over the past few months, thanks to the dedication of the committee. Chairman Leo Maguire explained: "We've had great fun organising a variety of fundraising activities and events. Thanks to the determination and hard work of our group we have tried everything from sponsored abseils and trekking the three peaks to raffles and our annual Summer Garden Party. "I think we even surprised ourselves by raising so much money, but there's plenty more where that came from!" The cheque was handed over at a special evening held to thank members of The Christie Crafters for their ongoing support and commitment. The group were treated to a potato pie supper and disco, and a raffle was organised to raise even more money on the night for The Christie. The £8,000 raised will go directly towards East Lancashire's £1.5m 'Double Doughnut' appeal, which will help Europe's leading cancer care centre to purchase the only 'Double Doughnut' scanner outside London. It is part of the hospital's £25m Christie's appeal, which currently stands at nearly £23m. Ends For further press details, please contact Alison Gudgeon at AWPR on 01200 426663. |
