RELEASE Christie Group's £47,305 cheque lights up night spot They were flanked by look-a-likes and wannabe stars but Christie's Oldham supporters group were not outshone amid the music and sparkle of Rochdale's Nemesis night-spot. The Sandbrook Park club and MBM entertainment devoted a special 'showcase' evening, featuring ten quality acts, to the £25m 'Christie's' appeal of Manchester's renowned cancer centre. Enter Christie's Oldham group chairman Lillian Walsh ( front second right) and team to present a whacking £47, 305 to hospital consultant Dr Gilbert Wieringa. Artists such as Paula Jay, appearing as Shania Twain (front left) and Billy Proud (Michael Jackson) were impressed. Even more so when they learned that this year's results take Lillian and co. to within a whisker of amassing, in total, £150,000 for the hospital's centenary appeal. All the money - and the group's continued efforts - will be devoted to helping Christie's fund research, create new patient facilities and to develop more effective and 'kinder' cancer treatments.
