RELEASE Fylde Fundraisers forward Christie Appeal by £50,000 Following just two years of hard work and dedication, The Christie's Fylde Coast Fundraisers have raised a staggering £50,000 forthe North West's The Christie. The twenty active members of the group have crammed their spare time full of a variety of fundraising events, including darts marathons, a golf tournament and a casino night. A high point was securing support from Prince Charles who donated a lithograph which raised over £4,000 at auction. The local Bike Aid Team have also been 'wheely' supportive and raised thousands of pounds for the group by completing marathon rides, including Blackpool Tower to the Eiffel Tower, and Lands End to Blackpool. Maureen Reid, Chair of The Christie's Fylde Fundraisers, commented: "We have great fun and gain a lot of personal satisfaction at the charity events. We are extremely grateful to our friends and families and all of the local people who have supported us. We are delighted with the amount raised - but it doesn't stop there! We already have a Sportsman's dinner in mind for the near future. "All of the group members have been touched by The Christie in some way, whether it be through our own personal experience, or that of a close friend or relative. Fundraising is our way of saying 'thank you' to The Christie." All the money raised will go towards The Christie's £25m centenary appeal - now standing at £22m - which aims to support exciting research and development into cancer diagnosis, and expand a series of interlinked projects to bring about "kinder", shorter and more successful cancer treatments and care. Christie's Regional Appeals Officer, Christine Blease, said: "The Fylde Fundraisers group is one of the most active fundraising teams in Lancashire and the North West, raising remarkable amounts for Christie's each year. "Their hard work, support and generosity will help Christie's to maintain its position at the forefront of cancer research and treatment." Christie's is Europe's leading cancer care centre, and treats thousands of Lancashire people each year, particularly those with more complex and unusual cancers.
