 A Real Success Story
The Appeal's London Committee

A STUPENDOUS final total, of £250,000 from the London and Manchester Treasures of the North art exhibitions brought to almost £3 million the amount raised for Christie's by the appeal's London Committee.

Through its network of business contacts the committee has secured a number of very large individual donations. Members have also helped with several high profile events such as a corporate reception at the Bank of England and 1998's 'attic sale' at Arley Hall.

Treasures of the North was another triumph. Owners of historic houses throughout the North West loaned magnificent pictures, furniture, porcelain and jewellery - some never seen in public before - for the exhibition which transferred to Manchester following a successful run in London. Organised by by Christie's for Christies, 'Treasures' was masterminded by Lord Hindlip, Chairman of Christie's, the international fine art auctioneers.

As Patron in Chief of the Appeal, the Duchess of Kent praised the work of the London Committee and the success of the appeal overall.

"Christie's is an extraordinary hospital with a remarkable reputation. It generates so much goodwill that it is like being part of a family," she said.
